PACIFIC COAST CUSTOMER CARE
Frequently Asked Questions
Find practical guidance on pillow firmness, comforter warmth, product care, shipping, returns and common questions from Pacific Coast customers.
Pillow Selection & Firmness
Start with your primary sleep position, then consider body size, mattress firmness and personal comfort preference.
How do I choose the right pillow firmness?
As a starting point, stomach sleepers generally prefer Soft, back and combination sleepers often prefer Medium, and side sleepers commonly need Firm support.
Shoulder width, body size, mattress firmness and personal preference can change what feels right. Check the firmness guidance on the individual product page before ordering.
Which pillow is best for side, back or stomach sleeping?
- Side sleepers: usually need more loft and firmer support to fill the space between the head and shoulder.
- Back sleepers: often prefer Medium support that cradles the head without pushing it too far forward.
- Stomach sleepers: generally need a softer, lower-loft pillow.
- Combination sleepers: often start with Medium or an adjustable-loft design.
This is general comfort guidance, not medical advice.
What should I do if my pillow feels too soft?
Confirm the exact model and firmness you ordered, then fully fluff and reshape the pillow. If your head still sinks too far, consider a firmer, higher-loft, gusseted or adjustable-loft option.
Do not cut open a standard pillow or remove fill unless the product is specifically designed to be adjustable.
What should I do if my pillow feels too firm or too tall?
Consider a softer or lower-loft pillow. This is especially relevant for stomach sleepers and back sleepers who prefer their head closer to the mattress. An adjustable-loft pillow can help fine-tune the height.
We do not publish a universal break-in period because changes depend on the fill, construction and use.
What is the difference between down and feather?
Down clusters provide airy softness and allow the head to settle into the pillow. Feathers provide more resilient structure and support.
Selected pillows combine both materials or place them in separate chambers to balance softness and support.
Does higher fill power mean a firmer pillow?
Not necessarily. Fill power describes the lofting efficiency of down, not firmness by itself. Firmness also depends on fill quantity and pillow construction. A high-fill-power pillow can still be Soft.
What pillow size should I order?
Match the pillow to your bed, pillowcase and preferred sleeping area, then verify the exact product Size Chart.
Common dimensions include Standard 20 × 26 in., Standard/Queen 20 × 28 in., Queen 20 × 30 in. and King 20 × 36 in., but individual products can differ.
Why can a gusseted pillow’s listed dimensions look smaller?
The gusset height may be listed separately and deducted from the flat length and width. For example, a Queen pillow shown as 18 × 28 × 2 in. can fit a typical 20 × 30 in. Queen pillowcase.
Can you help identify an older Pacific Coast pillow?
Email clear photos of the sewn-in law label and care label to service@pacificcoast.com. Include the fill content, model information and size. Customer Care can help identify the closest current option, although an exact replacement may no longer be available.
Common Product Questions
Natural-fill bedding can respond differently to packaging, pressure and daily use.
Why does my new pillow look flat or compressed?
Shipping can temporarily compress natural fill. Remove the packaging, gently shake and fluff the pillow from several sides, and let it rest in a clean, dry and ventilated area.
There is no universal 24-, 48- or 72-hour recovery promise. Contact Customer Care if it remains severely uneven.
Will a down or feather pillow flatten during the night?
Natural down and feather compress under pressure and may need reshaping. Compression depends on fill quantity, construction, firmness and sleep position. Regular fluffing redistributes the fill.
How often should I fluff my pillow?
Fluff before first use and whenever the pillow looks compressed. Hold opposite sides, gently push inward, rotate the pillow and repeat.
Is a new-product odor normal?
Natural materials and individual sensitivity can make the first impression vary. Remove the packaging and let the item air in a dry, ventilated space.
If the odor is strong, unusual or persistent, or the product feels damp, stop using it and contact Customer Care.
Can feathers or quills come through the shell?
Selected designs use down-proof fabrics, linings and reinforced seams to help reduce fill migration. Because feather is a natural material, we do not make a universal zero-migration promise.
For persistent leakage, sharp quills or a damaged seam, email clear photos and your order number to Customer Care.
What are the dark specks visible in my pillow?
Natural down and feathers can have gray or dark coloring visible through a light shell. Specific unbleached organic-cotton products may also show natural cotton-seed flecks.
If the area appears wet, stained or has an odor, contact Customer Care with photos.
Are all Pacific Coast products hypoallergenic or certified?
Materials, cleaning processes and certifications vary by product. Review the exact product page for current claims and certifications. Do not assume one certification applies to the complete collection.
If you have a diagnosed allergy, consult a healthcare professional before use.
Do pillows include pillowcases or protectors?
Unless the product page specifically states otherwise, pillowcases and protectors are not included. Confirm the selected pack quantity and “What’s included” information before ordering.
Are Amazon and PacificCoast.com products always identical?
No. Marketplace listings may use different models, firmness options, sizes, pack quantities or policies. Verify the seller, product title, model or ASIN, firmness, dimensions and pack quantity on that listing.
Comforters & Warmth
Choose warmth and construction based on bedroom temperature, season and personal sleeping preference.
Should I choose a Lightweight or All Season comforter?
Lightweight comforters are intended for warm sleepers, warmer rooms and seasons such as spring, summer and early fall. All Season designs provide more balanced year-round warmth.
Room temperature and personal warmth preference still matter.
What should I do if my comforter feels too warm?
Remove additional blankets and review the room temperature. If it remains too warm, compare the Lightweight Comforter collection.
What is the difference between baffle-box and sewn-through construction?
A baffle-box comforter has internal fabric walls that provide room for the fill to loft while helping reduce shifting and cold spots.
A sewn-through design stitches the upper and lower shells together into fixed compartments and is often used for lighter, lower-bulk comforters.
Should I use a duvet cover?
A duvet cover helps protect the comforter and can reduce cleaning frequency. Selected comforters have corner loops or tabs for compatible duvet ties. Check the individual product page for this feature.
Why does the fill look uneven in one area?
Shipping, storage and normal use can redistribute fill. Lay the comforter flat and gently move fill back into the affected chamber, then reshape it according to the care label.
Contact Customer Care if a chamber remains empty or a seam has opened.
What size comforter should I buy?
Compare the finished measurements in the product Size Chart with your mattress width, length and depth. Size names alone are not sufficient because finished dimensions can vary by product.
Cleaning & Care
The sewn-in care label and product-specific instructions always take priority over general guidance.
How do I wash my pillow?
Check the sewn-in care label first. Current general pillow guidance is to machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, then tumble dry low, air fluff or use no heat.
Special products may have removable components or different instructions.
How often should I wash my pillow?
Current general guidance recommends washing a pillow about once per season. A pillow protector can reduce cleaning frequency and help extend usable life.
How do I clean my comforter or duvet insert?
Check the sewn-in label first. Current general guidance is to spot clean or dry clean when needed, avoid machine washing and high heat, and gently reshape or fluff after cleaning.
Do not apply pillow washing instructions to a comforter.
Why does my washed pillow smell or feel clumpy?
Moisture trapped in natural fill can cause clumping or odor. Continue drying thoroughly at the low, air-fluff or no-heat setting permitted by the sewn-in label. Do not use high heat.
How long should I dry a pillow?
There is no single drying time for every pillow. Continue until the center is completely dry, with no cool damp areas, odor or clumps. Always stay within the temperature permitted by the care label.
How can I keep my bedding cleaner longer?
Use a correctly sized pillow protector and duvet cover, wash those removable layers regularly, keep bedding dry, and fluff natural-fill items as directed.
Can I return an item after washing or dry cleaning it?
No. Products that have been washed, laundered, dry-cleaned or otherwise cleaned are not eligible under the current return policy.
If you believe a new item is defective, contact Customer Care before cleaning it.
